Below are previous notices regarding how COVID-19 has affected our class. See our home page for the most current information.
COVID UPDATE REGARDING OUR (now) SUMMER 2022 CLASS
(e-mailed to current students on 6/16/22)
We are living in COVID times and, while we will not be policing it, as a courtesy to the instructors, to fellow students, and to facilities staff, we request that everyone is either vaccinated or has a negative COVID test 48 hours before class begins.
UPDATE CONCERNING OUR SPRING CLASS
(posted 1/8/21)
While we hope to (read, wish we could) hold our class this spring, we still have no word on availability of our normal venue (Lynnhurst Community Center), and we're concerned that COVID-19 restrictions will eventually rule out a class in the spring.
That said, there's an outside chance that we may be able to hold the class later in the year.
To those already registered, there is also the fact that at this juncture the Spring 2021 class is quite oversubscribed. We have a waiting list of nearly four dozen individuals, on top of what we can handle. WE ARE THEREFORE SUSPENDING REGISTRATIONS.
We apologize for the lack of more positive information and ask you to watch this space for additional updates.
UPDATE CONCERNING NEXT YEAR'S CLASS
(posted 8/17/20, updated 8/29/20)
Our plans are still to resume the class in April or early May of 2021. In fact, registrations are proceeding at a brisk pace, and we're currently at capacity.
We've started a waiting list, and will put names on it in the order we receive them.
We anticipate that there will be a few cancellations as we draw closer to the actual class dates - due to the dates (when we get them) not working for some folks, and the overall changing nature of the best-laid plans.
Therefore, if you are placed on the waiting list, there's a good chance we'll ultimately have room for you in the class.
UPDATE CONCERNING NEXT YEAR'S CLASS
(posted 6/27/20)
Our current plans are to resume the class in April of 2021, but obviously the corona virus is ultimately in charge. We do not yet have dates for the 2021 class and don't expect to have them until late fall when we can negotiate them with the Minneapolis Park Board. At least that's when we've traditionally been able to secure dates. The class, as usual, will typically take place on one of the last two weekends of April.
If you'd like to claim a roster spot for the 2021 class, you can register for it now with no payment involved. We'll notify you when we have dates secured, and you can then determine if the dates work for you. If they work, you can commit with a payment. If not, you can pass and release the roster spot for someone else.
You can get on our waiting list by clicking here.
UPDATE CONCERNING COVID-19
(posted 3/15/20)
For those of you who are registered or are on the waiting list for our April 2020 class, after discussion amongst the instructors, we've decided to cancel this year's class due to the COVID-19 situation.
The nature of how we teach involves close proximity for demonstration purposes during casting instruction, as well as exchange of rods and reels, with no practical way to sanitize the gear during the exchange process.
Please be reassured, we will offer you the options of a full refund or enrollment in next year's class. Lew Beccone will be sending out an e-mail within the next day or two.
We apologize for the cancellation, but the instructors have unanimously agreed that safety of students (and instructors) is paramount. We appreciate your understanding.
