present FLY FISHING BASICS
The Minnesota Fly Fishers, a Twin Cities based club, will offer their 34th annual weekend introduction to the fun and enjoyment of fly fishing again in late April or early May, 2021.
UPDATE CONCERNING NEXT YEAR'S CLASS
Our current plans are to resume the class in April of 2021, but obviously the corona virus is ultimately in charge. We do not yet have dates for the 2021 class and don't expect to have them until late fall when we can negotiate them with the Minneapolis Park Board. At least that's when we've traditionally been able to secure dates. The class, as usual, will typically take place on one of the last two weekends of April.
If you'd like to claim a roster spot for the 2021 class, you can register for it now with no payment involved. We'll notify you when we have dates secured, and you can then determine if the dates work for you. If they work, you can commit with a payment. If not, you can pass and release the roster spot for someone else.
You can get on our waiting list by clicking here.
UPDATE CONCERNING COVID-19
For those of you who are registered or are on the waiting list for our April 2020 class, after discussion amongst the instructors, we've decided to cancel this year's class due to the COVID-19 situation.
The nature of how we teach involves close proximity for demonstration purposes during casting instruction, as well as exchange of rods and reels, with no practical way to sanitize the gear during the exchange process.
Please be reassured, we will offer you the options of a full refund or enrollment in next year's class. Lew Beccone will be sending out an e-mail within the next day or two.
We apologize for the cancellation, but the instructors have unanimously agreed that safety of students (and instructors) is paramount. We appreciate your understanding.
We've got plenty of skilled instructors. With focused sessions and several hours of casting practice, students easily learn the basics of this engaging sport. The $75 tuition for this class includes two days of instruction, use of our gear, handouts, and workshop materials.
- Basic Equipment - rods, reels, lines, gear
- Tactics for streams, rivers, and lakes
- Ancillary Equipment

What About Gear?
We provide rods & reels for use during the class - no need to bring your own unless you want to. In fact, if you don't have gear, wait until after you take the class! We'll help you select the right gear for the type of fish you want to pursue.
There's not a better value in fly fishing instruction!
Start yourself, your spouse, a child, or a friend on a lifetime sport. Let the Minnesota Fly Fishers introduce you to the fun and adventure of fly fishing.
When and where?
The next class will be held rain or shine on a Saturday & Sunday in the spring of 2020, at the Lynnhurst Community Center, located in South Minneapolis at 1345 Minnehaha Pkwy. W. We'll have loaner equipment available if you need it.
